With a month to go, 2023 is on track to be the warmest in the world, smashing a record set in 2016 by 0.2°C. The record of 1.4°C above the average industrial threshold has provided us with a preview of what it could be like if a warming of 1.5°C above normal on a permanent basis is a reality. Reactions to the death of US diplomat have been world wide, from former US colleagues in Washington to foreign ministers in China and the EU, both past and in the present. I never met Kissinger but remembered him in history class and on TV as the grandfather of diplomacy who championed American and world interest. He reopened ties with China and helped end the Vietnam War. He was the encyclopedia of history and politics and used his past as references so that we don’t forget about them for the future.
