We’re seeing that on our doorsteps as we look at the troubling trends in the US and Germany. The return of Donald Trump and MAGAism in the States and the rise of right-wing extremism and populism in Germany, especially in the eastern half are two glaring examples of what could happen if we let them run freely at the expense of the institutions that have functioned well for over 70 years.
