Stories from Minnesota Part 11: Minnesota Nice

This story comes from a friend and former high school classmate of mine, who has been on patrol in her community, tracking ICE and protecting those vulnerable to kidnapping. At the time of this post, ICE has ramped up efforts to kidnap Americans regardless of color. Some for protesting, others just for the sake of being kidnapped. But despite this, efforts are being made to come together and put an end to this nightmare. And there are many ways to do it. The title Minnesota Nice and the story behind this fits like a glove and makes me proud to be a Minnesotan, despite living overseas. ❤

Minnesota Nice. That’s what they say about us, right? Minnesota Nice? Everything has been so heavy, and no refresh button in sight. Each day I wake up to opening my phone. I used to go straight to the News app or FB, after checking the forecast for the day, but that has changed. Now I look at how many Observers are active right now? Are the bus stops covered? Paying close attention to the chats as I make breakfast and school lunches. ….. Kids are off to school, now. Time to get busy. This is Minnesota after all. The forecast says, Cold and Icy! I could go into details on what the day looks like, but I think it’s more important to focus on the emotions. The energy. This is Minnesota! We are Tough! We are Loyal! We will fight for our neighbors and nothing will stop us. We Unite! We Grow! We FIGHT BACK! Complete strangers talking to one another with code names (seems dorky and bad ass at the same time), working to save the lives of other total strangers. While hundreds of us are doing those jobs, there are just as many working on Mutual Aid. Every day, in every community around here, groceries and necessities are being delivered to vulnerable families. All donations given by other amazing community members WHO CARE! Some of these families haven’t left their homes in a week or more. Kids haven’t been in school in 2 weeks or more in some areas.. Others, it’s day to day. I have cried so many times over the most awful acts being done to neighbors in my beautiful state of Minnesota. What I try to embrace about each day as I struggle to find some kind of balance between Mom Life and Fascist Hunter life is that there are like-minded, amazing human beings who will do everything they can to protect a stranger. Minnesota Nice
