2022 has become the year where many of our greats, ones whom we grew up with and were household names for decades, passed on into history, leaving behind memories to cherish. There were many to count and that included Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II, who passed on having enjoyed nearly a century of life full of love and happiness, having given her children and grandchildren her skills and wit, but most importantly, love.
Another person I want to pay tribute to is Olivia Newton John. The Australian singer and actress passed away on August 8 of this year after battling cancer on and off. She had started singing in 1963 and had established herself as a soft but pure singer who made her music pieces powerful and resonating, including “I Honestly Love You” and “Don’t Stop Believing.” Her breakthrough came with the film “Grease“, whom she starred and sung opposite John Travolta. It was there where she became versatile and found a way to influence the audience, mixing pop and R & B music. She and Travolta later became lifelong friends and sung together at many events. She became a music pop star during the 1980s and 90s and again in the last decade before her death with breast cancer at the age of 73. Some of the most well-known songs include “Suddenly,” “Xanadu,” “Magic,” “Physical,” and “Twist of Faith.”
Olivia may have been a pop star, but she had an open heart and what came out of her mouth at a concert was true and filled with love, and it was her soft voice and the sense of love that was her signature during her entire music career. One of the best examples of her loving success was at Christmas. She had starred in two Christmas films (A Mom for Christmas (2009) and A Christmas Romance (2014)) but she released some Christmas albums during her music career. Her most successful was Christmas Wish, which was released in 2009. And it is there is where this song comes in.
A Mother’s Christmas Wish was a song where she had a wish and some words of advice to her daughter, Chloe. It was a direct message from a mother to her child. This song mixes in Christmas with a wish for something great for a mother’s child. It’s laden with emotions as her voice provided a guidance to both the mother as well as the child. It’s something that they both should listen to. And therefore, this song is dedicated to all the mother’s and grandmothers out there, who were there for their children in the past and to this day are still the guiding light as their children grow up and have families of their own. This is the case for my family as well, for even though both my grandmas have long passed, this one is for my wife and daughter as well as our mothers. All of which with one word: “Thanks!” ❤
And to Olivia Newton John, many MANY thanks for what you did through the years. You will not be forgotten.
