August 31st marked the 25th anniversary of perhaps one of the most tragic deaths of the 20th Century. It was on that date that Lady Diana, Princess of Wales and her boyfriend at that time, Dodi al Fayed were killed in a car accident inside a tunnel in the central part of Paris. They were being chased by a papparazi when the driver lost control of the car and crashed. Diana’s death shook the entire world not only because of the gravity of the tragedy but what the 36-year old did for numerous children throughout the world. Diana was a symbol of hope throughout the world and her smile and generosity was something that cannot be forgotten, even to this day. No matter what wer were doing on that day in 1997, we were all glued to the TV when the events unfolded and were in tears as her memorial took place in the streets of London.

While her life in pictures will be presented in the next guest post, this picture is probably the most touching and where it is located, is something that is highly recommended when visiting London. It was a statue of Lady Diana with children surrounding her, built and unveiled in 2021, what would’ve been her 60th birthday. You will find this in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace. It was the idea of her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, who commissioned the statue to be built at this site in 2017. In a joint statement, they stated: “Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy.” Lady Diana left a mark in England’s legacy that will forever be part of World History, being up there with Queen Elizabeth II herself, and while I never met her in person, she was the person who showed us how to love onesself and others. Even the tiniest contributions make the biggest difference. Love never loses, it always is the dominating variant in our lives, even if we keep it to ourselves.
