In honor and memory of Sir Captain Tom Moore, who died on February 2nd from complications related to Covid-19, this Flensburg Files Genre pays tribute to the man who walked 100 laps around the block to collect money in the fight against the pandemic, which has become our World War III as life has remained at a total standstill and hospitals are full. Captain Moore, a World War II veteran, completed this mission in a walker and prior to him turning 100 years old last year. What was supposed to be only a thousand Pounds, turned into more than 30 million Pounds and has contributed a great deal, as Britain is in the top five in terms of the number of people who have been vaccinated at the time of this article.
The song “You’ll Never Walk Alone!” was originally a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel. However, Gerry and the Pacemakers modernized it in 1963 and it served as the slogan for the British soccer (football) team, FC Liverpool. This is the same soccer team that is being coached by German superstar Jürgen Klopp. Michael Ball and Sir Tom Moore performed a duet in April of last year, after the war veteran completed his 100-lap mission. With his passing, we would like to pay tribute to a real warrior who has fought two wars and came out stronger in spirit, not just for Britain but for the rest of the world.
For those who have lost loved ones to Covid-19- family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors, famous people and all, remember that we are all in unity in this fight. You will never walk alone, even after the virus disappears forever.
